It has been confirmed that there will be a four player multiplayer and so far four of the modes have been shown.
Ramsterball puts the player in a giant metal ball and is a form of tag. One player is "it" and must run his ball into pillars to gain points, while the other players run their ball into him to try and become "it" to gain points.
Headache puts the players in a horde of zombies, and they then must rush to the middle of the map and grab blenders. The point of the game is to put up to three blenders on zombie's heads and then rush to the far side of the map and push a button to activate them to gain points. The blenders are color coded so if a player sees an opponents blender they can give the zombie a stick of dynamite and stop them from gaining points.
Pounds of Flesh has the players wearing a helmet with antlers on them and hitting zombies over a gap to a giant scale. The player with the most weight wins. They can either just hit the zombies over with one hit or charge through the crowd of zombies and hit with a big thrust at the end. If the player needs more zombies the player hits a reload button and a giant anvil crushes the zombies and a new batch appears.
Slicecycles has each player on a motorcycle with chainsaws strapped to the handlebars, facing a sea of zombies in front of them. The game is simple, run through the mob and kill as many zombies as possible. The multiplayer mode seems to exist in a dystopian future in which zombies are killed for entertainment and as such have become a fixture of everyday life.
Co op Blue Castle games has recently confirmed that there will be a free roaming co-op mode, though few details are available at this time. According to a recent article by Jeff Gerstman, the co op mode does not factor into the main storyline of Dead Rising 2, and both players will play as Chuck Green (however they each have unique attire). Cutscenes remain unchanged (only one Chuck will appear) and only the hosting player will progress their story, although both players may earn PP in this mode.

Even if you just fail the main story right away your still on a time limit. It would be nice to be able to run around once the main story is complete with the option to restart whenever you want.
I've killed around 55,000 zombies so far on this run I'm making right now. It's very boring.
